Sam the Sign Superhero

Wonderful Clevedon Learning Trust pupil scooped a top prize after designing ‘Sam The Sign’ superhero during road safety week.

A Year 4 was one of scores of pupils from Mary Elton Primary School who excelled in Road Safety Week.

They all loved the 'Road Safety Superhero Design' competition set by North Somerset Council to design a superhero and super power relating to road safety.

He was chosen as 1 of 3 winners from across the whole of North Somerset and won a scooter prize.

His superhero named 'Sam the Sign' had a shapeshifting super power to change road-sign shape, which wowed the judges.

Other Mary Elton pupils were also acknowledged for their creativity and innovative ideas.

During the week, the pupils learned road safety tasks such as tracking the history of car safety, working collaboratively to create road safety leaflets for their peers and researching the safety aspects of seatbelts, driverless cars, brakes and airbags.

Joe Mansfield, Sustainable Travel and Road Safety Officer for North Somerset Council, attended the celebration assembly to present his prize and tell us why his design stood out to the judges.

Year 4 teacher, Cheryl Brown, said "The whole of Year 4 used all of their 5C learning values during the week and did a fantastic job at promoting the importance of road safety.

“We are very proud of them all! We were especially delighted when we heard about his win!"
