Excellent Result for Clevedon School Rowers
Future Steve Redgrave’s and James Cracknell’s finish incredible third in South West in prestigious rowing competition - in their first ever race.
Six students at Clevedon School are celebrating after coming third in a rowing competition.
Luke Palmer, Scott Ford, Jack Banks, Max Drew, Charlie Comrie and Archie Comrie stormed the under 18s National Country Gig Rowing Championships in Plymouth representing Somerset, beaten only by Devon and Cornwall.
The achievement was made all the more amazing as it was their first ever competitive race and they were rowing against counties who can select rowers from 30+ clubs, with 4-5 years’ experience in regattas and races.
It is a wonderful example of dedication and commitment after only starting their training in October and have since been rowing every week in Bristol docks with their British Rowing coach.
Headteacher Jim Smith said: “This is an absolutely brilliant success by the students. They exceeded all expectations.”
